Prof. Dr. Alfred Hagen Meyer

Professor Dr. Meyer is a partner of meyer.rechtsanwälte partnerschaft.

The focus of his legal work lies on all facets of food law and the law on food contact materials and commodity items, e.g. product development, labelling and health claims, risk assessment and crisis management as well as lobbying at the national and European levels.

An honorary professor at the TU Munich, Prof. Meyer has lectured on food law at the Institute for Food Chemistry, TU Munich, since the 1995/1996 winter semester.

Prof. Dr. Meyer's academic achievements are evidenced by over 200 publications, including a legal commentary on food advertising in Fezer (Ed.), "UWG – Lauterkeitsrecht" (C.H. Beck Verlag 2009), and the legal commentary published in 2007, issued in cooperation with Prof. Streinz, on Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002 and on the German Law on Foodstuffs (C.H. Beck). He is also editor of the text collection "Meyer – Lebensmittelrecht" published by C.H. Beck, one of the editors of the manuals "Functional Food" and "Verkehrsauffassung im Lebensmittelrecht" published by Behr's, as well as being an author and the editor responsible for themes in the "Römpp Lexikon Lebensmittelchemie" (Thieme).

Editor of the German food review "Deutscher Lebensmittel Rundschau" (DLR, wvg-Stuttgart).

Prof. Dr. Meyer is managing director of the Research Centre for German and European Food Law in Bayreuth, chairman of the administrative board of the German Nutrition Society (DGE), a member of the foundation board of the German Research Centre for Food Chemistry (DFA) and of the scientific advisory board of the German dairy industry association (MIV).

Corresponding member of the working group on nutrition issues of the Food Chemistry Society within the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and a member of the German legal committee on food law and food information (BLL).

Prof. Dr. Meyer is a regular a leading participant at German and international events, delivering his speeches in both German and English.
